If Kasol is the loud sibling of the Parvati Valley, Tosh is the quiet one. A small mountain village at 2,400 m, Tosh has fewer than a thousand residents, a handful of riverside cafés, snow on the peaks well into May, and a slowness that makes a four-day trip feel like a real holiday. It's 20 km south of Kasol — far enough that day-trippers leave by 5 PM, leaving the village to its locals and the slow travellers who came for exactly that. This guide is for them.

Top 8 things to do in Tosh
1. Sit at a riverside café and do nothing
The defining Tosh experience. Pink Floyd Café, Jim Morrison Café, Buddha Place — all have decks looking up the valley. Order coffee, falafel, or chocolate pancakes. Don't rush.
2. Hike to the small waterfall
A 45-minute walk up the village trail leads to a small cascade, often snow-melt in May. Quiet, no crowd.
3. Day trek to Kutla
Kutla is the next village up — a 3-hour hike over moderate terrain. Most travellers do a Kutla day-trip and return; experienced trekkers continue another 4 hours to the Sar Pass base.
4. Walk up to the apple orchards
Above Tosh village, the apple orchards are at their best in September–October. You can walk among the trees, chat with farmers, and buy apples direct (₹150–₹200 a kilo).
5. Bonfire night at a camp
Most Tosh camps and homestays light a nightly bonfire in season. Bring layers — temperatures drop fast after sunset, even in May.
6. Try local Himachali food
The dhabas above the café strip serve siddu (steamed bread with stuffing), trout curry, kullu trout fry, and rajma-chawal. Cheaper, more filling, more Himachali than the Israeli-staple café menu.
7. Photograph the dawn mountains
The peaks behind Tosh face east-south-east. First light hits them around 6 AM in summer, painting them pink-orange for about 20 minutes. The best vantage is the upper meadow above the apple orchards.
8. Take the bridge walk
The wooden bridge at the bottom of Tosh village crosses a glacial stream — a 15-minute walk over loose stones, but the photos are excellent. Many travellers stop here on their first day.
Where to stay in Tosh
The village has 30+ guesthouses, mostly small family-run places.
| Tier | Examples | Price (per night) |
|---|---|---|
| Hostel | Anant Hostel, Forest Edge Stay | ₹500 – ₹900 |
| Budget | Hill Top Guest House, Buddha Place stay | ₹1,200 – ₹2,000 |
| Cottages / mid-range | Pink Floyd Cottages, Sky View Cafe stay | ₹2,500 – ₹4,500 |
| Camp stays | Various tent camps below the village | ₹800 – ₹1,800 |
For the best mountain views, ask for a room facing east or south-east. For the quietest sleep, ask for a room above the café strip.
Best time to visit Tosh
